Global Mean Sea Level Rise Inferred From Ocean Salinity and Temperature Changes

چکیده
Abstract Barystatic sea level rise (SLR) caused by the addition of freshwater to ocean from melting ice can in principle be recorded a reduction seawater salinity, but detection this signal has been hindered sparse data coverage and small trends compared natural variability. Here, we develop an autoregressive machine learning method estimate salinity changes global 2001 2019 that reduces uncertainties freshening factor four previous estimates. We find mass rose 13,000 ± 3,000 Gt 2019, implying barystatic SLR 2.0 0.5 mm/yr. Combined with 1.3 0.1 mm/yr due thermal expansion, these results suggest mean 3.4 0.6 2019. These provide important validation remote‐sensing measurements changes, SLR, budgets.

Sea level rise in the Arctic Ocean
About 60 tide-gauge stations in the Kara, Laptev, East-Siberian and Chukchi Seas have recorded the sea level change from the 1950s through 1990s. Over this 40-year period, most of these stations show a significant sea level rise (SLR). In light of global change, this SLR could be a manifestation of warming in the Arctic coupled with a decrease of sea ice extent, warming of Atlantic waters, chan...
متن کاملGlobal Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Level Rise Estimation with Optimal Historical Time Lag Data
Prediction of global temperatures and sea level rise (SLR) is important for sustainable development planning of coastal regions of the world and the health and safety of communities living in these regions. In this study, climate change effects on sea level rise is investigated using a dynamic system model (DSM) with time lag on historical input data. A time-invariant (TI-DSM) and time-variant ...
متن کاملGIS Analysis of Global Impacts from Sea Level Rise
Future sea level rise caused by climate change would disrupt the physical processes, economic activities, and social systems in coastal regions. Based on a hypothetical global sea level increase of one to six meters, we developed GIS methods to assess and visualize the global impacts of potential inundation using the best available global datasets. After susceptible areas were delineated, we es...
متن کاملRapid accumulation of committed sea-level rise from global warming.
As carbon emissions and scientific research have accumulated over recent years, climate scientists have come to see global climate change as an increasingly urgent threat (1, 2). In PNAS, Levermann et al. (3) provide a powerful new indicator of danger. When their findings on the long-term sensitivity of global sea level to global warming (∼2.3 m/°C) are put in the context of recent research on ...
متن کاملSea-level rise at tropical Pacific and Indian Ocean islands
Historical and projected sea-levels for islands in the tropical Pacific and Indian oceans are a subject of considerable interest and some controversy. The large variability (e.g. El Niño) signals and the shortness of many of the individual tide-gauge records contribute to uncertainty of historical rates of sea-level rise. Here, we determine rates of sea-level rise from tide gauges in the region...
